When I called Farberware and tried to confirm that the pots are made from a different type of steel than the one I am allergic to, two of the representatives at Farberware on two different occasions. I was told I could use a magnet to test for nickel. The magnet will not be attracted if nickel is present. I did a test on the pot and it wasn't attracted to the magnet. I spoke with a rep who said that the other two reps were wrong and that the one I spoke with did contain nickel. I had already purchased it. I said I would have to return the item and pay a shipping fee and restocking fee because they gave me incorrect information. They could only offer me a 30% discount on a website that only has a limited selection of pots that don't even have this size or type. They did not offer to compensate me for their mistake. According to a recent OSU study, nickel allergies and acidic foods like tomato sauce can lead to health problems for consumers, so they should have labeled what metals are in their pots so that the consumers with this problem can avoid them. They should remove nickel metal from their pots and pans since it is a known reproductive toxin and is a carcinogen in higher amounts. They don't seem to care about the consumers health or wellbeing, but more about their profits. Other cookware companies are going out of their way to inform consumers that they have removed nickel metal. It's unfortunate that Farberware doesn't train their employees with accurate information and that they are causing health problems for people who don't know. Farberware doesn't compensate for the mistake they made. There is no way to find out if the pots have nickel or not. They said it was difficult to get the different factories around the world to label the pots with metal content because they had no control over that, which seems false to me since they are contracting to have them made and other symbols are engraved on the bottom.
👤I am very sorry that I bought this saucepan. I have owned 5 other Farberware pots for over 35 years and they are still as good as they were when I bought them. The design of the new pot is very similar to that of the older pots by Farberware, but the quality of the pot is not as good as that of the older pots. It's not "stainless steel", or at least not the one that was known long ago. When I cooked purple cabbage or tomato paste, the bottom of the new pot turned colors blue and red because the flame touched the pot. There were scorch marks that needed to be scoured off. I wonder if the base of the pot is distributing heat. Even when higher heat was used, my older pots never turned colors or showed scorch marks. The newer and older pots have different cooking surfaces. The newer pot has grooves that are more visible during the finishing process. The older pots had grooves like those. It's harder to clean cooking material at the Curviture where the base meets the vertical side walls of the pot. I think the metalic materials used to make the newer pots are different than they were a long time ago. Even though food was badly burned, the older pots came perfectly clean, and look fine today. The vendor who sold me the pot refused to take it back, so I decided to use it for boiling water. It seems capable of doing a lot.

The pasta can't be cooked in the pot because the strainer doesn't go deep enough, leaving a small amount of water at the bottom. If I want to make a good amount of pasta, I need a good amount of water, and I have to fill the pot too full in order to have enough pasta per water. 👤While steaming broccoli, the handles got so hot that a piece of the handle made a huge pop sound and flew across the room and landed in front of my baby daughter. The piece of handle was so hot that it could have burned anyone. I had the flame on medium when this happened, because the previous day I smelled toxic plastic burning, and I had it over hight heat. The handles were very hot to touch. I shouldn't have used it again. I really needed a steamer the next day. I thought I could get away with it. There is a reason this pan is so cheap. You should move along to the next one.

The pasta insert was more of a lower steamer than a pasta. I was able to get the Culina back. I called the company before I moved to the Cooks. A Cooks worker told me that the pasta insert would sit in the pot. I ordered it from Amazon. The Cooks were everything I wanted. A proper deep pasta insert, high quality materials and construction, and a good design are some of the things that make it work. Even if you don't need it now, you may need it in the future. The way to go is through cooking.

When we start making our own pasta, the water is at a rolling boil when we start making it, and it times out pretty well. I make a great stock pot. I made a month's worth of chili, red beans, and rice, and various soups. The quality was good for the price. We looked at similar stores that cost more, but this set is better. The chrome finish is starting to oxidize after a lot of use. It's expected for cookware that gets used to have this. If you are in the market for such a thing, I would recommend this set.

I don't think it will last as long as I wanted, but it has worked well for the price range. It does cook relatively even but you have to be on top of what you are cooking at all times because it can burn at the bottom.

The glass lid has a vent to let steam out. I don't think covering the hole vent would be a good idea because it would cause the lid to shatter. I will probably purchase one for myself as well.

It is large enough to make a large amount of soup but not so large as to be difficult to manage. There is a small hole in the cover that allows steam to escape. I wiped the inside of the "spaghetti insert" with a paper towel and there was black smudge on the paper towel. The paper towel was still showing remnants even after I wiped it many times. It took me two hours to clean most of it off, but there are still some in different places. It seems to be on the welding seams and inside the strainer holes. If you wash the item and never use paper towels to dry it, you won't notice the black marks. I didn't realize until I found black particles in my spaghetti.
